海外留学を志しそして未来の「チェンジメーカー」になりたいと考えている皆さんを心から歓迎します！私の名前はジェレミーと言って、ウェールズ人とアイルランド人の血を受け継ぐイギリス人です。私も学生の時は皆さんと同じような夢をもち、はじめはヨーロッパの旅から始まり、そして２０代半ばに、日本に来ました。
まず、NICがどれだけ素晴らしい環境かをお話ししたいと思います。NICは、学生たちも教職員も共に、自分自身を変えたい、成長させたいということに全身全霊を注いでいる場所です。単純に語学やスキルを学ぶ場所ではありません。NICでの１年間は、皆さんがどの道に進もうとも、成功するための大切な基盤となります。私が、高校から大学に上がった時に経験した困難は、今NIC生が経験していることと全く同じことでした。どうやったら時間を有効に使えるようになれるのか、教授とうまくコミュケーションをとるにはどうしたらいいのか、自分が利用できるリソースを有効活用するためにはどうしたらいいのか。これらの問いに答えるために、そしてもちろんそれ以上のものを提供するために、私たちはここにいます。
２１世紀は、驚くほど急速に、情報に囲まれ、人と人との結びつきが強い時代となっています。またそれは同時に、競争と協力の時代でもあります。学業における成功というのは、古くからの知識、人間としての規範、ハードワーク、そして自己鍛錬、そして時代の新しい需要に応えるための新しいスキル、例えば様々なテクノロジーを使えるようになること、文化を超えてコミュニケーションできること、他者と親密に協働できることなどいろいろな要素を必要とします。「チェンジメーカー」になるためにはこれらの能力をできるだけ早く身につける必要があります。

私が行っていることは、皆さんにそのチャンスが来た時に必要なスキルを教えることですが、皆さんは、ただ単純に準備万端の状態になるだけでなく、自分自身でそのチャンスを作る方法をマスターするのです。単なる「良い学生」になることを超えた「夢」を持っている方はぜひNICに来てください。そしてグローバル社会に大きく貢献している自分自身を、想像して欲しいと思います。皆さんの本当の旅はここから始まります。
Greetings to all of you considering the many opportunities to be found in study overseas and those inspired to be “change makers” of the future.
My name is Jeremy, I’m British of Welsh and Irish descent. As a student I had similar dreams of wider horizons, first travelling around Europe and then moving to Japan in my mid-twenties.
Let me tell you about the excellent environment at NIC. A place where both students and staff are committed to improving themselves. There is so much more to the experience than simply learning language skills. A year at NIC is preparation for success in whatever path you choose. When I think back to my own transition from high school to university, the difficulties were much the same as those facing students today. How to manage my time well, how to communicate effectively with professors and how to make good use of the resources available to me. Answers to these questions are what we at NIC are dedicated to providing, and much more.
The 21st century is increasingly characterized by information and inter-connectedness. It is also defined by both competition and the need to collaborate. Although academic achievement involves a lot of the same time old traditions of scholarship, hard work and self-discipline, the new demands of this century require many newer skills: For example, the use of technology across a variety of platforms, intercultural communication and the ability to work in close collaboration with others . To be a “change maker” is to fast acquire an expertise in these dynamic fields.

My purpose is to give you the skills set so that when opportunity comes, you will not just be ready, you will be prepared to lead the way in making those opportunities your own.
