ハイ！イギリスのスコットランドから来たアンディです。日本には20年程、住んでいますが、私はこの素敵な国が大好きです。長年、住んでいても、毎日がとても新鮮で刺激的に感じる大きな理由がこのNICだと思います。
NICの先生は、皆、ここの「本気」の学生を教えられることをとても幸運に思っています。異なる文化の土地で学ぶことを夢見る「君」のような学生は意識が高く、そんな君たちの成功の準備を手助け出来ることが、私達の誇りです。海外に移り住み、勉強をすることは決して簡単なことではありません。（私も日本に移り住み始めたころ、いろいろ大変だったことを覚えています。）言語の壁だけではなく、異文化・宗教などの様々な壁が多々あり、困難が待ち構えています。ですので、NICの学生はここNICで欧米の大学で必要なアカデミックスキルはもちろん、分析的思考力、そして他の文化の深い知識・知性をしっかりと身に着けていきます。
私は生まれてから最初の20年はスコットランドに住み生活していましたが、長期休暇を利用して、幸運にもいろいろなヨーロッパの国々を渡り歩きました。アイルランドからトルコ、スウェーデンからスペイン、そして今、日本に住んでからアジアの諸国とアメリカを訪れました。もちろんこの素晴らしい国、日本も旅しました。
どの国も素敵なところがあり、そしてどの国でも文化の壁があります。
多角的な視点から物事を捉え、多種多様な文化の価値観を得ることで、本当の意味での“ グローバルシチズン” になることが出来、海外大学へ進学するにあたりしっかりと準備することが出来ます。そういった「人間力」をつけることにより勉強面・生活面であなたの海外経験はかけがえのないものになります。さらに、この世界のコミュニティに欠かせないメンバーになるための成長を続けることができるようになります。ここNICでは、先生・スタッフが一丸となり、「君」の世界への旅立ちのサポートを全力で行っています！
Hi there! My name is Andy, and I come from Scotland in the United Kingdom. I’ve been living in Japan for around 20 years now, and I genuinely love living in this wonderful country. Even after all these years, each day is fresh and exciting, and a big part of that is because of my job here at NIC.
All of the faculty members appreciate how fortunate we are to have such a committed group of students to work with.
People like you who dream of going to study and live in another culture have the motivation to succeed in your education, and it is a privilege to be a part of the process in preparing such scholars to go on to achieve great things overseas. There is no doubt that living in a foreign country can be a daunting prospect ‒ I still clearly remember my first days in Japan! There were so many challenges to face, not only with the language, but the numerous cultural differences too. That is why the teachers here at NIC consider it vital that we not only help you to develop the English language skills you will require for your future academic endeavors, but that we also encourage you to develop your critical thinking skills and a greater understanding of foreign cultures.
Having spent the first 20 years of life living in Scotland, I was lucky enough to spend my summers exploring numerous European cultures, from Ireland to Turkey, Sweden to Spain. And over the past two decades, I’ve been living here in Japan, and have taken the opportunity to explore not only this wonderful country, but many other parts of Asia, and North America. Each country has its own unique charms, as well as its own challenges!
By learning to see issues from various perspectives, and perceive the value of cultural diversity, you can become a true ‘global citizen’, and be far better prepared for the challenges of studying overseas. Doing so will ensure that you can realize the full potential of your overseas experience, both academically and socially, allowing you to continue your growth towards becoming an invaluable member of our increasingly interconnected world.
