225 Reasons to Come to NIC

Many students are completing their high school and deciding what to do after graduation. Others are at Japanese colleges and thinking about making a change. For both types of students and many more, NIC is an excellent choice.

Many students ask me about the advantage of studying at NIC, so I thought this would be a great topic for this article.

Here are just 5 of my top reasons why I think NIC is an excellent choice for you:

  1. Small class sizes & personal care

In most colleges and universities here in Japan and elsewhere, classes can average 50 students or more. For an average high school student, this is not a good environment for improving a language and getting used to a new way of learning. NIC classes average only about 20 students per class. And each person receives individual care from both teachers and staff members. And we have more than 6 levels plus an academic one to make sure you are challenged. In the semester, your teacher will definitely learn your name and a lot of other information about you to help you achieve success at our school.

  2. A unique EAP program

I have looked throughout Japan, but I have not seen an English program like the one at NIC. NIC is not an eikawa school. It has an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. This means we prepare students for anything they will do at a college or university abroad.

    This includes:

    • writing (summaries, paragraphs, essays & research papers)
    • testing (TOEFL, IELTS, Michigan Test & university testing)
    • speeches & presentations
    • debates
    • academic style discussion
    • listening & note-taking practice
    • critical thinking...and so much more.

No other school does all of this to assist its students for studying abroad.

  3. Experience adapting to Western customs & classroom styles

Your NIC teachers understand what is necessary for success, so our classes prepare you well for university coursework. Western classroom learning is somewhat different from that in Japan. How you earn grades and how you participate in class is not the same. NIC is a bridge between what you know and what you need to know for universities abroad.

  4. Friendly & helpful faculty from many countries

Our teachers come from the United States, Canada, the U.K., & Australia. We all have great experience teaching. Moreover, every teacher has either a Masters Degree or Doctorate degree from an accredited university. Our faculty is one of the main reasons for our success in Japan. Students receive individual counseling from their teachers, and they receive a lot of helpful advice about their studies.

  5. An opportunity to earn credits to transfer abroad

By the 3rd semester, about 1/3 of our students are able to take some academic classes on our campus. They can transfer these classes to their college or university abroad. We offer many university classes at NIC such as: Biology, Spanish, World History, Calculus, Economics, Public Speaking, and many more! Some of the classes are offered by satellite. Others are regular university classes.

The truth is...studying abroad takes a lot of hard work and practice. However, NIC prepares well you for it. NIC has had 17 years of success helping students find their dreams. If you have any more questions about coming to NIC, please feel free to write me!

Good luck & hope to see you soon!
